Synod 2008 acknowledged the appointment of Rev. Norman Thomasma as the new director of the Office of Pastor-Church Relations, effective January 2009.
Thomasma will take the place of Rev. Duane Visser, who plans to retire.
“Please accept our thanks for all you do,” Synod Chair Rev. Joel Boot told Visser and Thomasma, as delegates applauded their work.
Thomasma told The Banner that he plans to extend the work of the Pastor-Church Relations office to do more education, conflict prevention, and training, while a new colleague will be more of the “first responder” for churches that are in crisis.
Before coming to Pastor-Church Relations six years ago as an educational specialist and associate director, Thomasma served New Hope Community CRC in Kincheloe, Mich., for 11 years.
