Ask cyclist Brent DeVries how you get married and then leave your bride for nine weeks, and he’ll tell you, “Very carefully.”

When DeVries, from Williamsburg (Ontario) Christian Reformed Church, proposed to Lindsey DeJong back in December, he had already signed up for the Sea to Sea bike tour. The two decided they wanted a summer wedding, so they married in June, just two weeks before the start of the tour.

While Brent cycled, Lindsey passed the summer by working a lot of extra hours as a paramedic and setting up their new apartment. She also visited Brent in Salt Lake City and in Grand Rapids, Mich. “I had endless support from family,” she said.

Both of them were looking forward to actually living together once the tour was over.
