Despite a scorching heat wave, 64 teens and their leaders who converged on Brampton, Ontario, for a weeklong SERVE project were eager to get to work.
“It’s hot, but they’re really enjoying it,” said Melanie Van Dorp, a group leader from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her group worked on a home-renovation project for a senior citizen—one of 10 work sites at the SERVE project hosted by Brampton’s Immanuel Christian Reformed Church.
The youths were touched by the gratitude of those they served. “[The teens] were begging to work on the roof. The lady of the house was so thankful,” said Van Dorp.
