The executive officers of Synod 2008 had a lot of synod experience—24 years in all. But only Rev. Joel Boot, president of this year’s synod, had previously served on the executive. This was his third year on the executive, including his service as president of Synod 2007. Boot’s experience was valuable, since nearly 60 percent of this year’s delegates were first-timers. The election of Rev. Thea Leunk as vice president of synod marks the first time a female delegate has served on synod’s executive. This year’s officers were (from left) Rev. Leslie Kuiper of Classis Wisconsin as first clerk, Rev. Joel Boot of Classis Georgetown as president, Rev. Thea Leunk of Classis Grand Rapids East as vice president, and Rev. Laryn Zoerhof of Classis Illiana as second clerk.
