Cathy Goring, church librarian, won an award for her work at Hebron Christian Reformed Church in Whitby, Ontario.
Goring won the Elsie Riva Award for Publicity and Marketing from the Church Library Association of Ontario.
Goring heads up the library committee of the church, oversees purchases, and catalogues books.
When she first started, the library only offered children’s videos, but Hebron CRC moved to its new building, the library grew to include both fiction and non-fiction titles, periodicals, DVDs, and more. It now includes more than 1,500 titles.
The library is also fully computerized, using bar codes and a scanner.
The library is publicized through weekly bulletin announcements and creative displays. Goring also hosts annual fundraisers.
The Elsie Riva Award is given to a recipient who successfully promotes a church library or who successfully promotes a collection of resources based around a theme such as prayer.
