Rev. James Dekker, president of Synod 2011, hadn’t expected to be elected, so he didn’t pack any ties.
A synod staffer provided him with a selection of ties, but delegates voted that Dekker did not need to wear a tie, though the first clerk suggested that perhaps they should sing “Blest Be the Tie that Binds.”
Now the ties are draped over the podium, joining a Vancouver Canucks banner. The Vancouver hockey team is one win away from winning the coveted Stanley Cup championship, leaving British Columbia delegates ready to celebrate a first-ever championship by their team.
