An estimated 100 children, along with their parents, enjoyed a free summer Fun Fair hosted by First Christian Reformed Church in Sarnia, Ontario, Aug. 20.
Chirp the Clown entertains visitors.
This was the third time the church has hosted the event, bringing inflatable jumping castles, games, crafts, face painting, and a barbecue to the church lawn and parking lot. A popular attraction is Chirp the Clown, a.k.a. Rick Nienhuis, who jokes around and makes balloon animals for the kids.
“It is a really great outreach to our community,” said event organizer Stacey Huxtable. She was pleased with this year’s event, including the “perfect” weather and good turn-out.
For Huxtable, the highlight of the fair was when a couple parents asked when First CRC held its worship services. “They had been church shopping and have always noticed us out in the community,” Huxtable said. “The whole point of our outreach initiatives like this Fun Fair [is that] we hope they see the love of Jesus in us and feel welcome to join us in our Sunday services!”
