Westside Fellowship Christian Reformed Church in Kingston, Ontario, partnered with Athletes in Action to host a successful soccer camp.
Developing soccer skills was an important component of the camp. One parent from the community noted, “My girls had a soccer game this week, and I couldn’t believe the improvement in their soccer skills from just a few days of soccer camp. It’s amazing!”

Another parent said, “My children really enjoyed the camp. [It] had something my children had never had before—lots of inspiration about God and very mature coaches.” That parent asked about other programs run by the church.
Camp leaders also nurtured positive qualities such as good sportsmanship and teamwork, and shared the gospel during small-group times called “The Coach’s Corner.”
Four youth leaders were part of the Athletes in Action team, assisted by five volunteer youths from Westside. Julia Kooy, outreach coordinator, and Adam Veenstra, outreach and children’s ministry assistant for Westside, coordinated the camp.
The soccer camp included a “Euro Cup” and a “World Cup” and ended with a pool party for the families of campers and leaders.
