Synod Affirms Infant Baptism

News

Synod 2012 said that pastors and elders should give a pastoral response to parents requesting infant or child dedication instead of baptism. But pastors should not lead infant or child dedications.

Instead, synod called for pastors and elders to give a faithful, encouraging, and pastoral response to parents who want their children dedicated. It also called them to teach the parents about infant baptism.

This principle was affirmed by Synod 2011 to guide the continuing work of the Faith Formation Committee. Synod 2012 gave it final approval.
