The girls’ soccer team of Unity Christian High School in Hudsonville, Mich., won the state Division III championship in early June.
The Crusaders won their eighth title in the last 10 years with a 3-1 win in the championship game.
Unity Christian Head Coach Randy Heethuis said his team was determined to get back into the championship game this year after a rare loss knocked the Crusaders out of last year’s tournament in the regionals.
“That loss served as motivation for the girls to get back,” said Heethuis, who has coached the Unity girls’ team for 25 years and the boys’ team for 20 years.
Unity finished the season with a record of 23-1, outscoring its opponents 119-9 and posting shutouts in 19 of its 23 wins.
“Offensive and defensively, we were very solid. We had great balance,” said Heethuis, a member of Fairway Christian Reformed Church in Jenison, Mich.
