Synod 2016, the annual general assembly of the Christian Reformed Church, began on June 10 with worship in the chapel of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich. The service was led by Rev. Mary Hulst, chaplain of Calvin College, and Rev. Randall Engle, pastor of North Hills CRC in Troy, Mich. North Hills is the host church of synod this year. The reading for the service followed the lectionary.

Participants from the Engage 2016 conference and the annual chaplains conference joined synod delegates for the opening worship.

Following worship, delegates moved into the business of synod, electing officers for the week.
