Handbook Enhances Worship for People with Dementia

Our Shared MInistry

In the February 2007 Church@Work feature “A Glimpse Behind the Veil,” a CRC chaplain described the experience of leading worship services in the dementia unit of a long-term care facility.

The services were modeled after services described in Evening Star: A Handbook for Worship for Persons with Dementia. The handbook was developed by a committee called together by Holland Home in Grand Rapids, Mich., and was partially funded by a grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship.

Principles for leading worship for persons with dementia and complete instructions for 16 services and associated activities are described in the handbook. It is available from Faith Alive Christian Resources at 800-333-8300.
