Calvin College recently hosted the Festival of Faith and Music, a biennial conference that explores, challenges, and celebrates the intersection of Christian faith and musical expression. Theologians, musicians, and music lovers gathered for three days of workshops, lectures, and concerts, including a sold-out performance from the Civil Wars, a top rising musical duo. (You can read a review of their album, Barton Hollow, here on the Banner website.) The weekend helped many explore the role of music in our understanding of mystery, doubt, faith, and wonder. As keynote lecturer Gregory Wolfe noted, music helps us notice the "dimensions of grace" that build our lives and our world. The 2011 FFM did the work of helping many hear that grace through note and song.
