The year’s most moving moment of cinematic grace was a real-life one. The documentary The Interrupters follows a handful of “violence interrupters” who intervene in disputes in crime-ridden Chicago neighborhoods before the arguments lead to bloodshed. They do this largely through caring conversation, in which they tell the "offenders" that they matter, that they're worthy of respect and care. When one of them confronts a teen girl who has been in and out of delinquent centers, it’s not with condemnation but with this message: “Do you want to be loved? Absolutely. Do you deserve to be loved? Absolutely.” Grace indeed. Due out on DVD and Blu-ray on February 14. (PBS)
