Bud Frazer is an engaging young cowboy from Oregon who can ride pretty well and knows how to work cattle. With a bit of money in his pockets from a win at the rodeo, Bud decides to travel to California and become a stunt rider in the cowboy flicks.
Heading south on the bus, he meets up with a spunky girl, Lily, who wants to break into the Hollywood movie business too, as a scriptwriter. While they search for work in not-so-glamorous Hollywood, they each must overcome their own barriers in the attempt to follow their dreams.
This contemporary cowboy story confronts the romantic myth of the West; the reality of life on the ranch and in the movies is more complex and often full of tragedy and heartbreak. (HarperOne)
