Big Daddy Weave’s new album, Beautiful Offerings, lives up to its title: it is simply beautiful. The band combines Christ-centered lyrics with a solid pop sound that includes hints of folk and bluegrass; the songs revolve around Jesus, his kingdom, and his return.
There are songs that challenge listeners who don’t know Christ, such as “It’s Already Done” and “You’re Gonna Love Him.” But the uplifting song “My Story” is probably the best on the album. It includes part of Fanny Crosby’s “Blessed Assurance.”
The band doesn’t settle for making only “happy” Christian music or treating God as a good buddy—a criticism sometimes raised against contemporary Christian music. Big Daddy Weave continues to put out worship music without the worship label. (Fervent Records)
