Get Out of the Way of Your Own Heart by Chris Renzema

Chris Renzema’s third full-length recording, “Get Out of the Way of Your Own Heart,” provides themes of hope and the shared experience of pain and praise. “Honestly, a lot of the sounds and songs on this record are coming from a place of like, ‘man I wish I could be playing fun music again live,” he said in a release. “This new album is very much geared toward being played in concerts, sung along to, and rocked out to.” The music feels edgy at times and reminds listeners of a couple British secular acts in Dire Straits (1970s thru the 1990s) and the ageless Eric Clapton. The lyrics are vulnerable. “Right Things'' displays this well and says in part: “But I wanna hold on to the right things; And let go of the rest;  ‘Cause time’s worth more than money; And I’m done buying what won’t last;  ‘Cause the years are just a vapor; And this life is just a breath.”  Renzema’s album offers substance musically and lyrically.
