One could argue that the most important player on an NFL team is the Quarterback. But the position is incomplete as articulated by Gisele Bündchen (Tom Brady’s former wife) after the New England Patriots lost to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI: “My husband cannot throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time.” Yes, Quarterbacks are essential—but they can’t throw to themselves. They need someone who can catch the ball.

This eight-episode series goes behind the scenes of five top NFL receivers: George Kittle (San Francisco 49ers), Deebo Samuel (49ers), Devonte Adams (Las Vegas Raiders), Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings), and Amon-Ra St. Brown (Detroit Lions). Executive produced by Payton Manning, a hall-of-fame former quarterback, the cameras are allowed to follow these five professional players during the highs and lows of the 2023-2024 season.

As the season rolls on, it’s interesting to see players struggle with injuries, team losses (despite individual greatness), coaching changes, and balancing home responsibilities with a demanding travel schedule. In many of the episodes, viewers are allowed to see what never gets broadcast during a typical Sunday game—the support system of families and spouses. In many cases, the entire family occupies the minds and hearts of the receivers as they perform on and off the field—hoping that success will result in a long-term contract worth tens or hundreds of millions of dollars. This kind of money can result in generational wealth—creating unbelievable opportunities for parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Receiver is a follow-up to the hit Netflix show Quarterback (2023). Fans of the NFL will love this inside look into these five top players. Fans also will enjoy reliving the 23-24 season as the eight episodes begin with the first game of the season and ends with the Superbowl in Las Vegas—starring the two 49ers (Kittle and Samuel) featured throughout the documentary.

Christians will appreciate the theme of dedication, an interesting look into various expressions of faith (Christian and non-Christian) showcased in eclectic prayers and mantras, and reflection upon the motivations that drives these five top receivers to perform extraordinary feats of athleticism on the football field.
