Ten high school students observed the latest meeting of Classis British Columbia Southeast. The students, all members of the hosting church, First CRC of Chilliwack, attended a morning session with their youth pastor, Marcel DeRegt.
DeRegt is leading the students in a study of church governance this year. “We thought this would be a perfect opportunity for the kids to see what actually happens at other levels of church government,” said DeRegt.
The students sat in on an examination of three Korean candidates seeking to be admitted into the Christian Reformed Church, listening in on the question-and-answer dialogue, some of which was through an interpreter.
Over juice and doughnuts at the morning break, the students expressed appreciation for the opportunity. “I found it interesting,” said Alexa Geleynse. “We got to miss school,” added Josh Reid.
