Socrates in the City is what every contemporary intellectual Christian dreams of: a popular (but not superficial), elegant (but not pretentious), provocative (but not stuffy) lecture series. The book includes transcriptions of selected lectures as well as host Eric Metaxas’s winsome introductions and the audience’s concluding questions. Lecture topics vary greatly, but all are equally stimulating. If nothing else, Peter Kreeft’s single sentence that fully explains predestination and free will (page 63) is reason enough to purchase the book. (Dutton)
