You may think you know Joni’s story, but you’ve only heard the half of it. Literally. In 1982, Joni found her soul mate in Ken Tada, who soon became her husband. They both knew there would be some hurdles to clear in their marriage since Joni is quadriplegic. They were also sure that with love, patience, and the help of God they could overcome those hurdles.
However, as in most marriages, there were other challenges that they couldn’t foresee. Joni’s busy ministry, Ken’s tendency toward depression, and Joni’s bouts with intense pain and breast cancer all took them by surprise. In Joni and Ken, they share how those obstacles distanced them, and then how God guided them through the hardships to a closer, stronger relationship. While the first chapter almost lost me with its meandering start to the story, their honest and encouraging words made me glad I kept reading. (Zondervan)
