Fanny Crosby was one of the most influential hymn writers of our time. Stephen Kelley, an antique hymn collector, found unfinished and never-before-published Crosby hymns at Wheaton College in Illinois. This discovery led to a 15-song CD entitledBlessed Assurance: The New Hymns of Fanny Crosby.
Some of today’s top songwriters and artists help make this diverse project a wonderful listen. Often when a special CD is released, the music genre mirrors one style, but not this work. Listeners can hear inspirational, Celtic, Southern Gospel, country, blues, soul, and a little pop. Singers include Michael W. Smith, Rickey Skaggs, Ernie Haase and Signature Sound, and the Blind Boys of Alabama. The Blind Boys’ “Where Could We Go” becomes a fast favorite. The bluesy, soulful feel will have you tapping your toes and relishing the sound. (Integrity)
