Synod, the general assembly of the Christian Reformed Church, has set the week preceding the third Sunday in October as Disability Awareness Week. Noting that 15 to 20 percent of the population of Canada and the U.S. have disabilities, synod encourages its churches, ministries, and educational institutions to sponsor events that recognize the importance of breaking down barriers for people with disabilities, reminding the people of God that the Lord welcomes all people and creating communities in which every member knows he or she is indispensable.
Synod 2017 is meeting at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Ill., from June 9-15.
