To enhance a planned joint session with the Reformed Church in America (RCA), Synod 2018 will be hosted by a church that symbolizes unity between the denominations.
Pillar Church in Holland, Mich., is a “union church,” a congregation affiliated with both the Christian Reformed Church and the RCA. The convening church typically hosts worship events during the annual assembly.
The two denominations plan to hold their synods jointly in Grand Rapids, Mich., in June 2018 to fulfil a mandate adopted by both churches’ synods in 2014, which has become known as the Pella Accord. It reads in part that “the principle that guides us, and the intention that motivates us, is to ‘act together in all matters except those in which deep differences of conviction compel [us] to act separately.’”
Synod 2017 is meeting at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Ill., from June 9-15.
